David Mark: ADC Confident of 2027 Ballot Spot Despite Court Case

The national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has assured members that the party will contest the 2027 general elections, regardless of ongoing legal challenges.

Speaking after a legal briefing on a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, Mark downplayed concerns over the disputes and expressed confidence that the party would win in court.

He told members there was no reason to worry, stressing that the ADC is prepared to pursue all legal options and will strictly follow due process. He also vowed to personally lead efforts to resolve the matter.

The court, led by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise or take part in any state congresses organised by the party’s contested caretaker leadership. It also barred Mark and others linked to the committee from interfering with elected state executives.

In response, the party said it has filed an appeal and requested a stay of execution on the ruling.

The case is part of an ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC, initiated by a suit from Norman Obinna and six others representing state party officials. They argue that the caretaker leadership does not have the legal authority to organise congresses or appoint committees.

Despite the internal crisis, ADC leaders say preparations for the 2027 elections are ongoing, with efforts focused on strengthening unity and maintaining members’ confidence.
